Welcome rising 6th grade Families
OverviewBand is a year-long elective that meets every day. Elective classes are approximately 50 minutes long. Students will have two electives each day along with their core classes.
ClassesClasses are divided into 2 sections: brass class: trumpet & trombone and woodwind class flute & clarinet. *Students who already play alto sax may continue with alto sax. *Percussion students begin with mallet instruments; no exceptions.

MaterialsEach day students need their instrument, small 3-ring binder, pencil, and Tradition of Excellence Book 1 (for their instrument).
InsTrumentsFamilies are responsible for providing instruments. Rent to own can be done through the below local companies. Rental insurance is highly encouraged. Instrument quality is important for your child's success.

Choosing an Instrument1. There are no boy instruments or girl instruments; seriously!
2. I encourage you to go with the instrument your child wants to play (see #1!) 3. Watch YouTube videos to decide - this video goes through the entire band. 4. We will spend the first few days learning about the instruments in class. 5. There is no easier or harder instrument in the beginning. 6. We will learn about each instrument step by step, from the beginning. 7. We will also learn about music step by step, from the beginning. 8. If you already play alto sax from elementary band or private lessons you may continue in 6th grade band. 9. Percussion students will play mallet instruments or bells for at least the first 9 weeks. Then snare drum will be gradually incorporated. There are no drummers in band; only percussionist that can play multiple instruments. Multi-percussion Video Mallet percussion Video |
